“The Institute of Brazilian Lawyers (IAB) has always been a beacon in the fight for democracy and the building of the nation. Many illustrious figures from the legal world have charted the course of the Brazilian legal profession here, and it is to this legacy that I commit myself to stand side-by-side.” This statement was made by Heloisa Nogueira Engel, a specialist in Business Law, upon taking office as a full member of the IAB. She joined the organization during this Wednesday’s plenary session (Dec. 4), which was presided over by the 1st Vice-President, Carlos Eduardo Machado.
Heloisa, from São Paulo, is a partner at Nogueira Engel Sociedade de Advogados*, a law firm specializing in Judicial Reorganization, Mediation, Banking Law, and Startup Advisory Services. She will serve on the Business Law, International Law, and Mediation, Conciliation, and Arbitration Commissions.
In her speech, Heloisa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to join the Institute and offered a special greeting to the women who are part of the organization: “We know that for many years our participation was limited, but over time we have earned our place. We are voices of transformation, and today the IAB reflects the evolution of women's roles in Brazilian democracy, becoming increasingly diverse and inclusive.”
Nominated by fellow member Alessandra Balestieri—who was unable to attend the session—the new member was welcomed by Edmée da Conceição Cardoso, the IAB’s Secretary-Director for Diversity and Racial Representation. “She has numerous academic achievements and publications on the *Migalhas* website, and she coordinates the judicial reorganization unit of the Young Lawyers Division (OAB Jovem) in São Paulo, among other merits,” Edmée noted in praise. Heloisa was also welcomed by Carlos Eduardo Machado: “It is always good to see new blood joining our organization. These induction ceremonies are always important for the renewal and longevity of our Institute.”
