Dear friends, clients, and partners,
Allow me to share a brief account of my story. Only then will you understand that Nogueira Engel is much more than an excellent law firm: it is a story rooted in the challenges of entrepreneurship and in the success that can become part of your journey of transformation and growth when you have us by your side.
I am Heloisa Nogueira Engel, founder of the firm, and my story and experience with entrepreneurs began when I was 12 years old.
No, you did not read that wrong.
When I was twelve, my mother fulfilled her dream of finally moving her beauty salon out of our home and into a space of her own.
That transition was not easy. Because the boundary between the business and personal finances had never been clearly defined, the salon's professionalization gave it a new appearance, but the same habits, practices, staff behaviors, mixing of funds, and poor routines remained. Even though its internal processes were in complete disarray, we kept moving forward and serving more and more clients—especially brides drawn to the beauty of the new space. As the number of clients increased, so did the staff, expenses, problems, and concerns.
Throughout my teenage years, I stood by my mother's side and filled the familiar role of the person who does everything: receptionist, hairdresser's assistant, salesperson, cleaner, purchasing assistant, cashier, marketer, and more. The salon's pace was intense. Many times I had dinner there or missed personal commitments because someone needed to close the books and pay the day's freelancers. The salon went through a great deal over its 15-year history, including nearly going bankrupt in 2017 before returning stronger and better planned in 2021. Throughout that time, I remained by my mother's side in a different capacity, helping her make decisions and strengthen the business culture.
If you have read this far, you may be wondering why I am telling you all of this when you are visiting the website of a firm specializing in business law. Perhaps I should be telling you that I graduated near the top of my class and was the commencement speaker; that, while still an undergraduate, I independently published a paper at a conference in Lisbon; or about my experience at renowned law firms, where I had the opportunity to work extensively and learn about client relationships, contracts, judicial reorganization, negotiations, corporate governance, crisis management, and complex corporate structures for asset protection.
And yes, perhaps I could have taken that approach. But, my dear friend, it would show my credentials and professional experience while failing to show who I am and why I understand so deeply the challenges of entrepreneurship and running a business.
In that spirit, I often repeat something a dear friend once told me: “You can only lead someone to a place you have already been.”
In other words, how could I discuss difficult choices with you as a business owner, and advise you with YOUR reality in mind, if I only viewed the world through the lens of a lawyer? I am confident today in guiding and advising major business leaders through restructuring and reorganization decisions because, for as long as I can remember, I have stood beside entrepreneurs—my mother being one of them.
I hope you find on our website the guidance you need to address the problem before you with greater confidence—or to begin taking preventive action before a more serious one arises. I am proud to say that my team and I are ready to serve you with the highest standard of legal expertise, technical quality, and integrity.
Of course, if you would like to learn more about my qualifications, I also invite you to visit my LinkedIn profile. There you will find weekly insights, information about classes I have taught, courses completed in Brazil and abroad, and testimonials from clients and partners with whom we have worked.
Thank you for visiting, and please come back soon!
